Project "Islanders: Many Islands, One Community", started in Angra do Heroísmo

Angra do Heroísmo and AJITER hosted, this Monday and Tuesday, April 17th and 18th, the initial meeting of this strategic partnership that takes place within the scope of key action 2 in the youth area of the European program “Erasmus+”.

This is an initiative aimed at young people between the ages of 15 and 25 coming mainly from European islands, coordinated by the Swedish organization “Traces and Dreams” which also includes, in the respective promoting consortium, the organizations “PRISMS” from Malta, “Kimolos Volunteer Team” from Greece, “Muhu Noortekeskuse” from Estonia as well as AJITER – Associação Juvenil da Ilha Terceira as the Portuguese representative.

This project will last 24 months, which will be developed until January 2025, and focuses on the use of a methodology based on “storytelling” as a tool to promote greater awareness among young people of sustainability and environmental protection. .

In practical terms, in a first phase, the training of multipliers will be carried out, whether teachers, educators or youth workers who, in turn, will use this knowledge and skills in their work with young people, focusing then on the theme of sustainability and natural heritage , as mentioned above.

In order to meet the proposed objectives, training will be developed to be made available on an online platform, several online seminars as well as presencial  training for multipliers and young people that will take place on the Greek island of Kimolos and in Brussels, respectively.

On the sidelines of this first meeting, there was also an opportunity to contact successful cases in the area of work with young people in terms of entrepreneurship and social inclusion, such as "Startup Angra" and "Cáritas da Ilha Terceira".

AJITER presented, likewise, its international partners with contacts with the cultural and natural heritage of the island with visits to the city center of Angra do Heroísmo and a visit to Algar do Carvão.

Once this stage is finished, the partners will then focus on the development of the various products foreseen within the scope of the initiative.
