AJITER hosted a ‘Job Shadowing’ event as part of an ‘Adult Education’ project
Between 17 and 25 August, Angra do Heroísmo hosted one of the activities of the “Sustain-Up” initiative, a mobility project under the Erasmus+ programme in the field of Adult Education (KA122-ADU), funded by the European Union.
The project was organized by the Italian organization “Easysustainability” and focused on environmental education and sustainability, involving partnerships in Berlin, Germany, and on Terceira Island, Portugal, with the organizations NGO Nest Berlin and AJITER, respectively.
In this context, AJITER hosted three professionals from the aforementioned Italian organisation for ‘on-the-job training’, or ‘job shadowing’ as it is known in English. This focused on sharing best practices regarding the recognized quality of the work carried out by the Terceira-based organization in relation to its environmental education projects, as well as various organizational development practices.
The project’s main objectives were therefore: (1) To strengthen staff skills in the use of Non-Formal Education (NFE) techniques, in facilitation and in the design of interactive activities, in order to make sustainability training more engaging, as well as (2) To develop strategic networking skills to establish solid cross-border partnerships, facilitating the exchange of good practices and access to new opportunities for collaboration at European level.
AJITER is approaching its quarter-century of existence, having been founded on 14 April 2003; since then, it has carried out extensive work. It is also worth noting that it is a Public Utility Institution and is classified as an ENGA – Non-Governmental Environmental Organization – and operates the UNESCO Information Centre ‘Jovem Insula’. It is also one of the European organizations forming part of the ‘EURODESK’ information network, actively publicizing and promoting European programmes such as ‘Erasmus+’ amongst the Azorean community.
