Annual Consortium Meeting of the “CoastalPro” Project held in Angra do Heroísmo
On Thursday, 25 September, the city of Angra do Heroísmo hosted the annual members meeting of the consortium responsible for promoting the development of the ‘CoastalPro’ project, which focuses on training and skills development based on tourism opportunities associated with coastal areas, based on issues such as concerns related to their sustainable exploitation and the prospects for the sector's evolution.
This meeting, which took place at the Angra do Heroísmo Marina Headquarters Building, followed two others held in the previous two years, namely on the island of Lemnos in Greece and on the island of Gran Canaria in Spain.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the various organisations that make up the consortium - of which AJITER is a Portuguese representative - as well as a representative of the European Commission, the body that funds the project.
The meeting aimed to analyse progress on the various stages of the project, discuss the next steps in terms of training, partnerships and dissemination, and learn about DG MARE's policies and funding opportunities.
On the 26th, an event open to partners from the local community was planned at ‘Startup Angra’ to share the lessons learned from the Academy and training groups. However, due to the preventive measures in place in relation to Hurricane Gabrielle, the event had to be cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date.
Funded by the European Commission under the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF-2023-BlueCareers), the main objectives of the project include the creation of state-of-the-art learning tools, the provision of training and support courses of the highest quality, and the development of an innovative skills framework in the field of coastal tourism.
The consortium promoting the project is made up of various entities in the academic, business and associative fields, and is coordinated by Surf Club Keros, which is an example of a project to boost the coastal economy, bringing together a product that includes various training courses in water sports as well as hotel services.
